Investors should remember that excitement and expenses are their enemies.

This blog is about the boring journey of us as a middle income family in accumulating savings and wealth, using relatively safe and reliable methods to reach our financial goal for retirement. The lessons and stories we learnt in our journey, we hope to share with others with similarly humble means – through our own interactions with friends and family, who are often not knowledgeable about saving and investing prudently in the midst of their busy lives. Our main hope is that we can in our small ways, help others find their way eventually – not advice on what to do or buy, but stories on what to consider and look out for.
MrsAmass is the fantastic saver of the family! She often learns of the new and good saving deals, or easy-to-do ways to earn some extra money. She is also MrAmass’s primary teacher to avoid wasting money e.g. paying for credit card annual fees, not collecting or redeeming points for vouchers, and etc. She is also the conservative investor, primarily putting her hard-earn savings in safe, government investment products such as Singapore Savings Bonds and Treasury Bills.
MrAmass is the risk-taker of the family! Just like the bond-equity ratio, while MrsAmass places our savings in safe investment products, MrAmass will learn and test out higher risk investment products in an effort to find reliable ways to make a little more gains e.g. unit trusts, investment-linked policies, annuity plans, stocks, ETFs, robo-advisors, and etc.
The collective experiences and stories learnt from our journey is what this blog is about, and we hope the lessons and tips we learnt in this on-going process will help you too. As quoted from Warren Buffett, our journey is about finding our way through the boring and mundane, to safely get us to our destination in a low cost manner. 🙂
