Shopping Malls Loyalty & Rewards Programme

Singapore has a lot of shopping malls around the island and they are mostly strategically located near the MRT stations. It is convenient to catch a movie, to grab a bite, to top up groceries for the week, or even visit to the library, all under the same roof. Let’s not forget the free air-con that one can enjoy on a very hot day in Singapore.

In my journey to accumulate money daily, I have made an effort to reduce my time and spending money in shopping malls (window shopping does not work for me).  However, there are times which are inevitable to be in shopping malls because of whatever reasons, such as meeting up with friends for a meal.

If  there is a need to spend, why not get back some form of rewards while spending?

There are various loyalty and rewards programme offered by the malls in Singapore. Most of the rewards programme work the same way – sign up for a free membership, spend in the stores, submit the receipt within 24 hours, and the points are awarded in your membership account. When you have accumulate enough points, you can exchange for vouchers or carpark rebates.

In my phone, I have a folder that keeps all the various rewards programme Apps.  I am listing here, 8 of the Apps I have in my phone – and they are all on shopping malls rewards programme.

(Information accurate as at 14 Oct 2018)

1.  CapitaStar

CapitaStar is the first rewards programme I signed up years ago.  For many years, whenever I had to make big ticket items, I will chose one of the CapitaLand Malls to make my purchases. They run special promotions that award bonus points during some of the months, especially near festive seasons.  Take advantage of those promotions to boost your points so that you can change for more rewards!

There are 15 shopping malls under CapitaStar – Bedok Mall, Singpost Centre, Tampines Mall, Bugis Junction, Bugis Plus, Clarke Quay, Plaza Singapura, Raffles City, Junction 8, Bukit Panjang Plaza, Lot One, IMM, Jcube, Star Vista and Westgate.

2.  Frasers Rewards

This is my current favourite for a few reasons.  I stay close to one of the malls under Frasers and the minimum purchase value eligible for rewards is $10 (lowest out of all the rewards programmes)! AND, I get double points for all of the transactions in my birthday month!

Frasers has 12 malls at the moment – Anchorpoint, Bedok Point, Causeway Point, Changi City Point, China Square Central, Eastpoint Mall, Northpoint City, Robertson Walk,  The Centrepoint,  Valley Point,  Waterway Point and Yew Tee Point.

3.  shop Far East

If you like to shop in Don Don Donki in Orchard Central, you must be part of this rewards programme. Shop Far East offers better rewards (for dollar spent), as compared to the rest of the rewards programme.

There are 13 malls under Far East – Clarke Quay Central, Orchard Central, Square 2, West Coast Plaza, Far East Square, Greenwich V, HillV2, Hougang 1, Icon Village, Pacific Plaza, Riverside Point, Junction 10 and Katong V.

One of the rewards I redeemed recently – a nice treat!

4.  AMperkz

AMperkz has 6 malls in the rewards programme – Century Square, Hougang Mall, Liang Court, Tampines 1, Tiong Bahru Plaza, White Sands.

I don’t stay or work near to any of these malls, thus I seldom get a chance to accumulate enough points to redeem for vouchers. What is good with this rewards programme is that I can use 20 points to redeem S$0.10 of carpark rebates.  Better than having nothing, I guess.

5.  M Privileges (M Malls)

This is new to me as I chance upon it a few weeks ago.  M Malls consist of AMK Hub, Jurong Point and Thomson Plaza.

I used to have Jurong Point Shiok! membership but was frustrated with their programme because their app did not allow submission of receipts.  I have not use this new rewards programme yet, therefore can’t comment much now. Anyone tried?

6.  ION+ Rewards

ION is one of the tourists favourite as it house reputable brands.  I signed up for their rewards programme because of the 10% discount that I can get if I have my meals in Food Opera. Other than that, I can hardly meet the minimum spend of $100 per day.

There are other participating stores (besides Food Opera) that give direct discounts if you are ION+ Rewards member.

7.  Suntec Rewards

If you work near Suntec City and frequent the mall, it make sense to sign up for the free membership and accumulate points for rewards.  Look out for promotions (especially near festive seasons) that will help to boost your points.

Like ION+ Rewards, Suntec Rewards also offer members only rewards – which gives a direct discount in the participating stores.

8.  Vivo Rewards

I seldom visit VivoCity as its a distance from where I work and stay. I signed up for Vivo Rewards as it used to gives instant carpark rebates.  However, the points are no longer awarded instantly now. It’s quite pointless now since the points take 5 days to be awarded, and expires within 3 months.

If you frequent Vivo and drives, this rewards programme is good to have.  Otherwise, don’t bother.

I have summarised the 8 rewards programme in the picture below (click on it to see a clearer image).  While I tried to make it as comprehensive and complete, please still always refer to the updated information provided by each rewards programme (links provided above).

Food for thought – If you have to buy an item that cost $500 and the shop can be found in both Orchard Central (Far East) and The Centrepoint (Frasers) – where will you make the purchase at?
